Defining surgery in plastic
The word plastic surgery is a generic term that applies to the procedure or operation done for cosmetic or practical motives or objectives by hand or tool.
The term ‘plastic’ from plastic surgery derives from an ancient Greek word that implies forming or moulding, ‘plastikos’.
To date, there are two key or main areas or fields of plastic surgery. They include:
O Surgical Reconstructive Surgery. The aim of this field of plastic surgery is to disguise or repair harm to the face or other external areas of the body. This method of plastic surgery includes the closure of defects with regional, local or distant flaps by grafting tissue. Tissues from other sections of the body are moved to another section via the process.
O The most prevalent type of plastic surgery today is aesthetic or cosmetic surgery. Much of the time, this type of plastic surgery is made to alter or strengthen features that the patient considers hideous or unflattering in the face or body. Breast reduction or breast implantation are forms of this form of plastic surgery.
Disciplines related to cosmetic surgery
It can also be more subdivided from tradition and from the two broad fields of plastic surgery. The research or more development in the following relevant unique fields is also part of the American Board of Plastic Surgery:
O Craniofacial Procedure. This type of plastic surgery involves procedure or surgery to align or change congenital or inborn physical abnormalities, including cleft lip palate, craniosynostosis, and other facial defects related to born causes and physical development.
Another specialty where plastic surgeons are qualified is hand surgery. In the discipline, they undergo complete instruction.
One type of plastic surgery involving the maxilla or jaw and face is maxillofacial surgery. The area developed or arose from the achievements and progress of both oral and plastic surgery. Fractures in the mouth as well as in the face that could have resulted from injuries or brawls are instances of practises in this discipline.
