Currently, the only known treatment with stem cells is embryonic stem-cell transplantation. This typically takes the form of an abdominal bone marrow transplant, but the stem cells could also come from umbilical cord plasma. An alternative treatment is cord blood transplantation in which the stem cells are taken from the patient’s own umbilical cords. In this procedure, cord blood is not harvested, and stem cells are directly applied to diseases of the patient’s origin. Although this method has not been used as of yet, it has shown promise in certain circumstances.

Stem cells can be used for many different purposes. They can be used for the manufacture of new cells or tissues, such as in transplants. They can even be used to replace the existing cells of the human body, such as those that are damaged or lost due to disease, injury, or aging. In other cases, stem cells may be directly injected into the body, as a substitute for body organs or other artificial tissues that are no longer viable.

MSCs, or myostatin gene-specific proteins, are another source of stem cells and treatment. Maintaining the genetic material that produces myostatin, or in some case, any other protein or DNA, can be useful for patients with muscular deficiencies or other serious disorders. In recent years, stem-cell products called iPSCs have been developed and used for myostatin gene therapy. These cells are made from a patient’s own cells and then injected into their muscle tissue to encourage the production of myostatin or other proteins. iPSCs are currently being tested in humans with muscular diseases.
